To learn that
you, or someone you love, has a life-threatening illness can be a
devastating experience. Many people find themsleves overwhelmed by
the intensity of their emotions. They may feel unable or unwilling
to burden those around them with their concerns.
Art Psychotherapy offers
an opportunity to express these concerns in the safety of an individual
or group session facilitated by an experienced professional. Through
the use of art materials, thoughts and feelings that may be too intense
or painful to put into words can find expression.
A registered
Art Psychotherapist is trained to provide the help and encouragement necessary
to facilitate what can often be a difficult process, thus providing
the possibility of release and resolution.
Exploring the
creativity latent in us all, not only allows for personal insight
and discovery of our strengths, but also vastly enriches our lives
with new beginnings at a time otherwise filled with endings.
In short, for
these people, Art Therapy
is the Creative Response.
THE
CREATIVE RESPONSE
The Creative
Response is a professional organisation of Registered Art Therapists
working in palliative care, AIDS, cancer and loss.
The organisation
was formed to provide support for all Art Therapists working in this
field, and to promote awareness of its relevance to allied professions
and the general public.
We provide regular
study days for Art Therapists to pool their knowledge and experience
and as a forum for debate. Members also regularly provide conference
presentations on all aspects of our work plus experiential training
workshops and advice on setting-up a new service for people living
with a life-threatening illness or a griefwork programme.
