Pioneering the
development of art therapy for people who have cancer Corinne Burton,
artist and inspiration of the Trust that bears her name.
What
is the purpose of the Trust?
Corinne was a
talented artist and mother of four young children when at the age
of forty two she died from breast cancer.
From her experience
we learned how beneficial art therapy can be. The Corinne Burton Trust
was therefore set up to fund specialist art therapy training for postgraduates
who will go on to work with people with cancer.
The Trust has provided Goldsmiths College, part of the University of London, with a bursary to pay the fees for two years of one student each year, specialising in art therapy for cancer care. The Trust then funds the student for a further two years on an art therapy work placement at a hospice or oncology unit
The Trust funds a Corinne Burton art therapist at Barts and Royal London hospitals. Corinne Burton art therapists have also worked at the Royal Marsden in Sutton, the Edenhall Marie Curie Centre, St Catherine’s Hospice and the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital.
